Mechatronics Class
Mr. Palensky and students, Owen Obbink and Anthony Sessemen were present at the board meeting to share information about the newly created Mechatronics course being taught in conjunction with Central Community College.
In this course, students learn how to safely wire a variety of devices.
Strategic Plan Finalization
Board President Megan Kozisek, Superintendent Eldridge, Mr. Biltoft, and Mr. Cidlik shared information with the school board about finalizing the strategic plan process. They highlighted several outcomes from this process:
Ensuring the curriculum, instruction, and assessment are designed and delivered with a focus on content rigor, student engagement, and continuous academic achievement.
Provide responsive, functional learning environments.
Ensure the mission and vision of East Butler Public Schools align with the goals and community expectations.
Provide expanded learning opportunities, college, career, and relevant adopted curriculum.
Mid-Year Policy Updates
Superintendent Eldridge shared mid-year policy updates provided by KSB school law. These updates are part of changes to state laws that were approved by the state legislature during the last legislative session.
Policy 2008 - Meetings
Policy 3004.1 - Fiscal Management For Purchasing and Procurement Using Federal Funds
Policy 3060 - Firearms and Weapons - Non-Students
Policy 6043 - Sharing Mapping Data
These policies will be considered for approval at the January Meeting.
2025-2026 SCHOOL DISTRICT CALENDAR
The school board reviewed two proposed school calendars. One would require a different format for Parent-Teacher Conferences (Non-student day), while the other was consistent with what the district currently has in place for Parent/Teacher Conferences (3:00pm-8:00pm).
The board moved to approve the proposed school calendar for the 2025-2026 school year, which does not change parent/teacher conferences.

CELL PHONE POLICY FOR STUDENTS & STAFF
The administrative team presented the newly created policy for Pk-12 students and digital devices. Digital devices includes smart phones, ear buds, smart watches, etc.
The board move to approve the proposed Pk-12 student digital device policy, to take effect on January 3rd, 2025.

VILLAGE OF BRAINARD DRAINAGE ISSUE - MADISON STREET - COST-SHARING AGREEMENT
Superintendent Eldridge shared with the school board the updated cost-sharing agreement that was discussed between the school and the village's attorney.
The board moved to accept the changes to the cost-sharing agreement with the Village of Brainard.
MOTION PASSED: 4-1 (Kozisek - Yea, TePoel - Nay, Pekarek - Yea, Jisa - Yea, Spatz - Yea)
PROPANE VAPORIZER
In October, the Brainard building's current propane vaporizer failed and was no longer repairable. A new vaporizer needed to be ordered and installed. Superintendent Eldridge presented the cost associated with that project for the school board's approval.
The board moved to approve the cost of the vaporizer and installation at a cost of $12,941.

PURCHASE OF PROPERTY AT 203 S MADISON STREET - BRAINARD
The school board was approached about purchasing the property at 203 S Madison Street in Brainard. (East of the school)
The board moved to enter a closed session at 7:55 p.m. to discuss the purchase of the property at 203 S. Madison Street in Brainard in order to protect the public interest and exited the closed session at 8:13 p.m. (MOTION PASSED: 5-0)
OPEN SESSION - The board moved to approve the purchase of the property at 203 S Madison Street in Brainard for $200,000.

SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION & CONTRACT
Annually, the school board evaluates the superintendent at its December board meeting.
The board moved to enter a closed session at 8:16 p.m. to discuss the superintendent's evaluation and contract to protect the reputation of the individual and exited the closed session at 9:08 p.m. (MOTION PASSED: 5-0)
OPEN SESSION—The board moved to approve a proposed three-year contract for Superintendent Eldridge (25-26, 26-27, and 27-28) and a 2.7% salary increase.
MOTION PASSED: 5-0
The school board will act on the proposed contract at their January School Board Meeting (January 13th, 2025 - 6:30 p.m.)

The East Butler Public School's Board of Education meets on the second Wednesday of every month in the library at the Brainard school building. Each meeting starts at 6:30 pm.
