It is Career and Technical Education (CTE) month. Mr. Cidlik shared with the school board all of the CTE courses that East Butler High School offers.
Education Service Unit #7
Representatives Kris Elmhaeuser (Interim Chief Administrator) and Dawn Lindsley (ESU7 Board Member) attended the meeting to discuss the services provided to East Butler Public School District. East Butler utilizes ESU 7 for various services, such as technology, special education, and teacher/principal/superintendent professional learning.
Strategic Plan - Finalization
Members of the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) were part of the meeting to share the final document from the strategic planning process.
The school district's next step is to adopt the strategic plan formally - which will take place at the March regular board meeting. The district has already taken steps to implement this plan.
Legislative Update
Superintendent Eldridge provided the board with a detailed overview of current legislation being discussed that may impact the East Butler Public School District. The list of bills that Mr. Eldridge shared can be found in the link below.
SUMMER PROJECTS & FACILITY PLAN
Superintendent Eldridge provided the board with a summer projects update. Projects moving forward for this summer are: 2nd & 3rd - grade classroom - Brainard renovation, Biology Classroom, Madison Street Drainage - Brainard. A majority of these are part of the district's five-year facility plan. You can reference that plan in the link below:
203 S Madison House Update
Superintendent Eldridge and the school board building and grounds committee provided an update on the next steps for the property once it is acquired (March 1st). At their regular board meeting in March, the school board will consider adopting a timeline for 203 S Madison and the 211 S Madison properties.
Architectural Firm
BCDM Architects, out of Omaha, was present at the meeting to share information about their services in conducting a facility assessment and master plan. Both of these items were shared as a result of the strategic planning process.
A facility assessment of the mechanical infrastructure would be conducted throughout the district. The assessment would also provide data on the best utilization of classroom space throughout the school district.
The school board moved to approve hiring BCDM architect at a cost of $12,500.

Village of Brainard Tree Bid
As part of the Madison Street drainage project, the East Butler school board considered the bid for Hobson Tree Service's removal of 15 trees. Under the cost-sharing agreement, the school district would be responsible for 50% of the cost. The total cost for tree removal is $21,750.
The school board moved to approve the bid for Hobson Tree Service for the school district's portion ($10,875).

Negotiated Agreement Amendment
Superintendent Eldridge shared that with the addition of the social media coordinator to the extra duty pay schedule, an amendment to the certified negotiated agreement would be needed.
The School board moved to amend the certified negotiated agreement.

Policy Revisions
The school board reviewed the following policies at the February Board Meeting.
Policy 1001 - General Statement Policy
Policy 1002 - Creation, amendment, and distribution of policies
Policy 1003 - Mission Statement
Policy 2001 - Role of the Board of Education
The school board moved to revise policy 1002, specifically how the school board reviews policies.

Classified Staff Compensation
The school board discussed classified staff compensation for the 2025-2026 school year.
The board moved to enter a closed session at 8:12 p.m. to discuss classified staff compensation to protect the public interest and exited the closed session at 8:36 p.m. (MOTION PASSED: 6-0)
The school board moved to approve the classified staff compensation with an increase of 2.7%, adjusting the sub-bus driver pay to $45/route and $20/hour for activity trips.
